Dr Jack Parker demonstrating the SMART System |
Over 140
guests attended the Centre for Assistive Technology and Connected Healthcare (CATCH) official launch event at the Millennium Galleries in
Sheffield on the 19th November. There was a fantastic buzz in the
venue as guests networked and viewed demonstrations of some of the technologies
being developed. Patients and carers were present to talk about their
involvement in the research and development of new technologies. Delegates
included academics, health and social care professionals and industry partners,
with over 40 companies represented.
Professor Gill
Valentine, PVC for the Faculty of Social Sciences welcomed guests on behalf of
the University and Professor Geoff Fernie from University of Toronto gave a
keynote speech on the research being undertaken at Toronto Rehab (http://www.uhn.ca/TorontoRehab).
Professor Mark Hawley and Professor Arlene Astell outlined the background
behind establishing CATCH at the University of Sheffield and the research
vision for the next few years. Videos of all the presentations will be available
on the CATCH website soon.
Press and
media interest in the event was very high and the launch featured on Radio
Sheffield, Hallam FM, ITV Calendar and in the Yorkshire Post.
