RAT group member Professor Pam Enderby has been recently appointed chair of
Healthwatch Sheffield, an independent consumer champion for users of health and
social care in England. The national body, Healthwatch England has powers to
ensure the voices of those who use health and social care are heard by the
decision and policy makers. The local Healthwatch groups will inform government
bodies and local authorities across England about their findings, reporting to
Parliament every year.
Healthwatch does not have power to change practice directly,
but it will gather evidence of good practice, national consumer trends and
issues of concern in health and social care which it will present to regulators
and government departments to influence national policy.
Pam has recently presented a ScHARR seminar titled: "The Right Ingredients for Better Outcomes: Investigating Community-Based Intermediate Care Services for Older People", presenting some of the key findings from the NIHR funded project "Enhancing the Efficiency and Effectiveness of Community Based Services for Older People: a Secondary Analysis to Inform Service Delivery". Her research and experience across all aspects of health and social care, of which this latest study is one example, will be of great benefit to Healthwatch and the RAT group wish her all the best in this new role.
