The University’s Centre for
Assistive Technology and Connected Healthcare (CATCH) is offering its last
£5,000 Innovation Voucher. The funding scheme was launched in spring 2016 to
help launch new ventures which aim to improve people’s lives through
technology.
The first Innovation Voucher was
won by Gospelware in January at the Digital Health Design Challenge, which took
place at the Digital Media Centre (DMC), Barnsley. They were working with a
team from the multiple sclerosis charity Shift.ms along with a consultant
neurologist and specialist nurse from Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS
Foundation Trust. Together they created an app to help people with MS to
monitor and manage fatigue issues. Voucher two, three and four will be given to
companies working with new technology in mental health, new tech sleep research
and novel applications of speech technology.
We now have a last voucher to
allocate that will help you to turn an innovative idea into reality with an
industrial partner.
Benefits of the Innovation Voucher
to an academic:
· Kick-start a new collaboration with an industry partner;
· Support from the CATCH team;
· Develop a long-term strategic, mutually beneficial
partnership with industry.
Dr. Heidi Christensen, Lecturer in
Computer Science at the University of
Sheffield, was awarded an Innovation
Voucher earlier this year and she was full of praise for CATCH. She said, “CATCH is a great partner. Their
expertise with industry and academia helps bring ideas to reality. In
projects where I have worked with CATCH, they managed the legal, business and
administrative tasks so I could focus on the actual research.”
The deadline for applications for the
last Innovation Voucher is 21/10/2016.
