Researchers develop low-cost smartphone device for quick HIV and syphilis screening

Researchers are developing technology to test for infectious diseases in poor countries, quickly! The technology is looking like it will be in the form of a "dongle" that can attach to a smartphone device. The diseases it will hope to diagnose are HIV and syphilis. The device has been tested in Rowanda and it found that 92% of HIV and syphilis infections were correctly diagnosed. The results were provided by the dongle within 15 minutes.
