RAT group researchers Claire Bentley, Dr Jack Parker and Lauren Powell have conducted a workshop with 60 nursing and health visitor undergraduates at Sheffield Hallam University to introduce them to Telehealth and the issues around its implementation.
The session included demonstrations and hands-on experience
of a range of different healthcare technologies, from Telemonitoring, to an app
for lung disease management, to ‘intelligent insoles’ which measure your
balance and gait. However the section which particularly struck a chord with
students was the Q&A session delivered by a patient and a telehealth nurse,
in which both spoke about their experiences of the service and the benefits and
potential pitfalls they have experienced.
Feedback from the students was extremely positive! This may
be an effective way to break down the awareness barrier among healthcare
professionals around healthcare technologies.
