Adopt a Care Home Scheme

Prince Edward School
The Adopt a Care Home scheme is being discussed on BBC Radio Sheffield's Breakfast Scheme on Friday 17th October. The scheme is being evaluated by Laura Di Bona from the University of Sheffield's School of Health and Related Research.

The Adopt a Care Home scheme links care homes with local schools. The Adopt a Care Home scheme hopes to teach children more about dementia and older people. It also hopes to improve the well-being of people with dementia in care homes and make them feel more connected to their local community. As part of this scheme children have lessons about dementia in school. Some of these children will also visit a care home to speak to people with dementia about their lives and local history.

The Adopt a Care Home evaluation is exploring whether the Adopt a Care Home scheme may be of benefit to people with dementia and school children. It will do this by having research staff observe the Adopt a Care Home scheme as it takes place. Research staff will also speak to some of the children, care home and school staff about their experience of being involved in the Adopt a Care Home scheme.
