Recent Advances in Assistive Technology and Engineering (RAATE) – a UK perspective

Barnsley Hospital and RAT Group's Simon Judge joint edited a special issue of the Disability and Rehabilitation: Assistive Technology journal which has recently been published (editorial can be viewed here).

The authors were given the opportunity to exhibit some of the papers from the annual UK assistive technology conference; "Recent Advances in Assistive Technology and Engineering (RAATE). They discuss the broad variety of papers presented this year covering topics such as brain computer interfaces and postural seating in nursing homes. 

The main theme running through the papers discussed is "the user". The user is discussed in terms of the impact assistive technology (AT) can have on them, how they can be involved in the design of AT and discussion around why certain users may decide not to use certain technologies.
