It’s not every day you get invited to meet royalty, but
that’s exactly what happened to CATCH Professor Luc de Witte last month.
He joined a group of Dutch entrepreneurs, academics and
creatives, volunteers from the Dutch community and Dutch nationals who were
invited to meet with His Majesty King Willem-Alexander and Her
Majesty Queen Máxima during their state visit to the UK.
During breakfast at the Dutch ambassador’s residence, in
Hyde Park Gate, London, they discussed current issues that reflected the close
ties between the two countries included the concerns about the consequences of
Brexit.
Fellow University of Sheffield academic Dr Henriette
Louwerse, the Director of Germanic Studies, was also invited to the royal
meeting. Dr Louwerse and Professor de Witte were two of only six academics
invited to meet with the Dutch King and Queen.
